Mentri Besar, Trengganu (MBI) was established in 1951 under Enactment No. (1) of 1951.

The Chief Minister (Menteri Besar) holds the position of corporate body for MBI. Currently, YAB Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar is the Chief Minister of Terengganu and serves as the corporate body for MBI.

The enactment was amended in 1986 to include Clause 4A, which grants MBI the authority to carry out transactions, provide loans, and make investments.

The role of MBI is to promote and support the state government development effort as well as to carry CSR obligations to parties.

MBI can enter into contracts, acquire and purchase movable and immovable property, and engage in transactions involving money, real estate, immovable property (including vehicles and vessels).
